Day 3: Keep Calm and Spread the Word

Key Verse: John 12:12-19

Today's scripture is about Jesus entering Jerusalem as the King. As Jesus enters on the donkey people are in the streets praising His name and celebrating his arrival crying out HOSANNA! There are two verse that speak to me and the first one is v14-16

What I LOVE about these verses is the confirmation that is given from God. All the way back in the old testament people write and talk about the coming of the Messiah (Zechariah 9:9, Psalms 118:25-26). This is just a guess but I think it has been hundreds of years that people have been waiting for Jesus to come. With that being said I think this is a perfect example of God telling us that that He will fulfill His promises. Might not be when WE want God to do it, but God will do it. How many times have we asked God for something and when we don't get it when we want it, we get upset and angry at God? I'm not a patient person, so when I ask God for something I am expecting it in the near future. But that is not the way God operates, He is not a wish granter. He does for us what He knows is best. But see how God promised a Messiah to come and save our sins, and after all this time God does it! Sometimes we have to be patient and just chill and wait on God. If He wants us to have something He will give it to us on His time not ours. So instead of getting upset when we don't get exactly what we want ASAP, take a moment and thank God for knowing what is best for us. When we ask God something I believe that He either says Yes. Not right now. Or no because I have something better for you. Be patient and have faith because God will ALWAYS fulfill His promises.

Finally, I want to look at v17-19. In v17 5 words stand out to me, "...continued to spread the word." People are spreading the news about Jesus and how he raised Lazarus from the dead. By spreading this news more and more people are becoming followers of Jesus and the priest are getting upset. What does this say to me? 1) Always spread good news about our God, because that's the starting point of getting followers for Jesus. If God does something great in your life, get up and tell someone! Spread that good news all around! Even if it's just something that you think is small, nothing is too small when it comes to what God has done for you. 2) Just because something is good news to you, does not mean it’s good news to someone else (v19). There will be people who get jealous of what all God has done for you. They don’t want to see you doing well, so every time you tell them what God has been doing for you they come up with some kind of comments to rain on your good news. It will cause you to not appreciate what God has done for you. But don’t let the “priests” bring you down for the awesome things God has done for YOU! If you are starting to see that people surrounding you are never happy for what God is doing/done for you, it might be time to start surrounding yourself with people who will rejoice with you.
God blesses us so that we can share that news to get more followers for Jesus, so don’t let a couple of people prevent you from doing that. SHARE your testimony. THANK God for His blessings. You never know who is listening to your story, and who is being impacted by your good news.

  • God has a plan for my life that started when I first entered this world. God is never going to just leave me hanging and I must have faith that He will always fulfill everything that He has planned for me. I sometimes have doubts and I worry that things won’t work out the way I want them to, but God will always keep me SAFE, because He knows what is best for me and my life
  • The Lord has blessed me so much, and sometimes I forget to share my good news. But that is something that I need to change, because God could be speaking through me to help change  the life of someone else. God gives me opportunities and blessings for a reason, it’s not right to keep the good news to myself. I have to spread it to my surrounding friends so we can continue to bless and have an impact on each other.
